The Worst Tinder Date I've Ever Been On
During one of the worst Tinder dates that I went on - all 44 minutes of it...
...the guy asked me why I travel so much (this was obvs pre-pandemic, LOL), and if I'm not worried about the dangers, the threat of being trafficked.
I paused. I didn't know what to say.
It was as if he'd suggested that I just stay home, indoors, tucked away from the world, AT ALL TIMES, in order to avoid the risks...
...In order to avoid, well, LIFE ITSELF?
He preferred to stay home, to work through his leave, to not risk, to not adventure, to not try new things (you can see why this date lasted the briefest of 44 minutes).
And well, my answer: because IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WORTH THE RISK.
From hopping into cabs at 4am in Shanghai, rather tipsy; to jumping off bridges at Vic Falls; from leaping into random bakkies on an island somewhere in Thailand; from riding trains across the US; to tasting sea urchin sushi in Tokyo...
...from hopping onto the back of a scooter that took me through the streets of Paris at midnight; to climbing Mt Kili; from laughing my face off watching comedy in Edinburgh; from solo-tripping across Northern Italy; to diving with dolphins in Mozambique - IT HAS ALL BEEN WORTH IT.
I can't WAIT for the moment that we're all safely vaccinated, and travel is back on the cards again. I can't wait for more wild adventures, that that scared Tinder Guy would never dare to go on.
And in the meantime, whenever I can, I’m trying new things here at home, pushing myself to take new courses, to try new challenges, to open new businesses. I got a lot of life to live 🙌🏻🙌🏻
“Get out from your house, from your cave, from your car, from the place you feel safe, from the place that you are. Get out and go running, go running, go wild, get out from your head and get growing, dear child.” - Dallas Clayton
I hope that each risk you've taken, each new thing that you've tried, each new adventure that you've gone on - oh, I so hope that they've been WORTH IT. Maybe they didn't all work out as planned, but you learnt, you grew, you LIVED.
